The Ignorable Garden

I love gardens.

But I am not a gardener. I am fond of hardy things that grow without help. I noticed today how my potted herbs have flourished. I kept meaning to repot them, and I've chided myself for not fertilizing. But spending time in the backyard, I saw that despite the fact I haven't done a thing, little flowers and strawberries have shown up. With no help from me, they've taken encouragement from the sun and the backyard sprinklers.

Which leads me to say, effort is overrated.

Enjoy what shows up in your writing, even if you didn't weed or fertilize or make things "just right." As long as you have a space for things to grow, they'll respond. Our writings are not tender, fragile plants that need constant attention. They are hardy herbs that will keep coming back, surprising us.
