Pop Tarts

Poem from my journal over a summer ago . . .

Pop Tarts
by CJ Krug

They call that frosting
Glazing the top,
Hard and congealed.
But pretty. It shines.
Lick sugar,
Drop into toaster:
Pop! It's a toy!
One hot bite reveals
A jam stripe
The Queen of hearts,
She made some tarts

Food that's fast, with attitude
Not so great when the frosting is gone.
But the dry corners remind
Me of playing cards,
Squared garden plots.
At last I have an edge.

Revisit a food you loved as a kid. Do you still like it? Perhaps not? Either way, experience it. Write about it.

  1. I love this! It's a pick-me-up read and a visual of a pop culture food (pun unintended), even without the photo (but the photo adds to it). It also reminds me of my own memories of Pop Tarts.
