Why You're Not Inspired

Frequently I hear these statements:
  • "Sometimes I just don't feel like writing, so I don't."
  • "I only create when I'm in the mood."
  • "It's amazing what I can do when I'm inspired, but if not, oh well."
My answer is:

"Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working."
--Pablo Picasso
This is why writers tell beginning writers to write every day. Not to raise a rigid standard nobody can keep. But to create an environment where inspiration can show up. Work first, get inspired second.

Is there something you've been procrastinating for lack of inspiration? What one thing can you work on today?
