Creativity and A False Work Ethic

"Our critical minds have convinced us that work must be work, no fun in it. And yet, the more we hold to this idea, the less we achieve. When we focus on dreary responsibilities, we block our creative, playful side, the instigator of amazing accomplishments.
If you are entrenched in this false work ethic, you'll put creativity at the bottom of your to-do list, because work comes first, always work. And something enjoyable and fulfilling won't seem to count. Yet think about it. Your creative work is work, at its most rewarding.
A side effect to this attitude is a lack of joy in the present moment. Another side effect is procrastination, which can seriously detract you from reaching goals."

So go ahead. Stop working so hard, and play at your work. And sing.

  1. Yet another wonderful reminder that I am, first and foremost, a writer. It is not simply another hat I wear, but my skin, living and breathing. My "job" is something I do for fun on the side to earn a little extra income and help people out.

Thanks, as always, for sharing your wisdom, Christi!
